Using speechd-up without it rewriting /proc tables

Hello,
I am having trouble getting speechd-up working as I want since I updated
my ubuntu system up to the testing version of feisty.

I am trying to get speechd-up to not rewrite the /proc tables, according
to the help message when giving the command "speechd-up -h" I should
load it with option -t. My problem is that I don't need to call
speechd-up, when I give the command "sudo modprobe speakup_sftsyn"
speechd-up seems to load automatically, so I am unable to give the -t
option. Where can I configure this?
