You're right. mplayer totally rocks. It seems to handle anything from simple .au files to movie disks. I have not yet found an audio format it won't handle. The best bet is to change to mplayer. It's easy to install and get started with. Just download, grab the codecs packages, open out the codecs, place that directory in the right place, open out the mplayer archive, configure, build and install. That is all.
