edgie not speaking.

Hi,
I am having trouble booting the distro. I have tried on a satalitte
A55, an older Dell, and a relatively new P4 desktop. I was however able to
boot it on a satellite 17xx though. When I try to boot the satellite a55,
and dell I get the splash screens and then the display just goes black.
Then the cd stops spinning. When I try on the P4, I just see writing on the
screen instead of the splash screen. I cannot see well enough to read it.
Would anyone have any suggestions or ideas for me?
Scott

has anyone any idea if I need to specify any sound parameters when I attempt
to start ubuntu?
I hear no startup sound when I allow the default to start.
both machines are running creative cards.
one runs an sb_Live! emu10k1 and the other runs an audigy1 also emu10k1 from
memory.
thanks in advance.
