I'd recommend replacing your kernel source with a fresh tarball, and trying again. Of course, if you're trying to patch current cvs into 2.6.18, then don't bother, as has already been stated here recently. In that case, go back to a 2.6.17 kernel, or dig back in the changelog or the cvs mailing list to find out the date at which the 2.6.18 patches were present, and checkout from that date.
