Hi, I am having a very odd issue with kernel installation. I recompiled the 2.6.17 kernel with speakup installed as downloaded the source from the people.debian.org/~shane/speakup/kernels and all I changed was I enabled the kernel config file to be included in the kernel which should have been enabled in the first place. I then rebuilt the kernel image and replaced it with the older one that came with the package. I did not change anything else and everything went well, the kernel even booted and came up talking. I then got this error when trying to mount root filesystem /lib/modules/2.6.17-speakup-686/dep.modules or modules.dep no such file or directory. I might have miss spelled some of that but I think you can understand what is happening here. For some odd reason either the initrd image or the main file system modules.dep file is not being seen by the kernel. What is a good rescue CD that works to allow me to mount that filesystem and fix the error? What command can I use to rebuild the initrd image using yaird? -- My web page is http://www.nickgawronski.com Email services by FreedomBox.
