However, from what I understand, CDMA is closed, and the providers don't want to share the specs with anyone else. GSM is open, and the advantage is from what I understand, that unlike with CDMA, you can simply slap a SIM card into any GSM phone, and away you go. Like I said, I'm by no means knowledgeable on the subject, so take the above with a grain of salt, for now at least, until someone more qualified then I who can explain it better decides to reply.
