speakfreely troubleshoot help please

I'm using my sound blaster, I've had for some years and I'd forgot to include the device permissions but they look OK too:

crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 4 2006-08-16 17:23 audio
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 3 2006-08-16 17:23 dsp

Even root has the problem.
