If so, what was your solution? I had this problem at one time and was able to fix it by changing the contents of /etc/speakup/softsynth/caps_start and /etc/speakup/softsynth/caps_stop. I don't recall what it was set to before, but now they are set to \x01+3p and \x01-3p respectively which seems to work pretty well.
