I've just tried it and the only way to do the save seems to be to
select the option 'save to disk' and press enter. If I understand you
correctly, you don't know if you selected the option, which makes it
rather difficult.
I still work visual [just wondering how much longer :(] so am not
certain if this will be an option for you: Use links. When you select
the file and press D, it comes instantly with a file name to save to.
