Glenn, I think you misunderstood. Pinging an address directly is one thing. Pinging the network broadcast address and watching all the machines on that network respond, is quite another. It's the latter Windows machines don't respond to. That's either a curse or a blessing, depending on what one is trying to achieve, i.e. it's a blessing if you're looking for the machine that ISN'T Windows.
