I read this thread but I didn't see the LinuxFromScratch Live CD
mentioned. I t's about half the size of knoppix to download and has a
good basic system without all the GUI goop. It also has a full C and
C++ development environment as the goal of the disc is to build a Linux
distro from it. I use it all the time and it works great!
