I don't use Slack, so can't be too specific about that. However, I can tell you that you need to create the .muttrc in your home directory. I don't believe one is written their by any application. You can find an example to play with at: ftp://rednote.net/goodies/system/user/muttrc As far as mail not being sent, you might want to tail your /var/log/maillog, or whatever file Slackware uses to write its messages relating to the sending of mail for clues.
