Hi, No - the install is done in a text interface, its just that in the non-modified version its laid out slightly differently. Imho text installs work better because you don't have to worry about getting the relevant support/overheads to get the GUI up and running, and the install can be done over multiple places (i.e, you can do a Debian install over SSH).
