Well one quick way is to do this Apt-get install eflite flite yasr This will install yasr your all perpus screen reader eflite a flite server for emacspeak and flite. Update your kernel using aptitude to install 2.6x. Yasr is not hooked in to your kernel and you never need to worry about losing it. I am talking to the maintainer of the debian package for speakup to see if he is willing to update the kernel image and to provide a source package for speechd-up. If you are willing to work with source packages instead of just the debian ones let me know there is a good users guide and a howto on speakup and software synthesizers are covered in there. As a novus user my self I found it some what difficult to create the package only to find that the speakup image does not have the device in it. So you are going to have to get a kernel source and then the speakup patch from cvs and make your own kernel. Quite a takes for a new user. I like emacspeak better then yasr but yasr is easier at this point with debian to get talking. Another easy one is emacspeak Type this to get emacspeak and emacs21 Apt-get install emacspeak-ss This will get emacs21 emacspeak 17.01 quite old and the emacspeak server. I got in touch with the maintainer of this package to see if he would update it as well. Another good option for emacspeak is speechd-el To get it type Apt-get install speechd-el Hth -----Original Message----- From: speakup-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:speakup-bounces at braille.uwo.ca] On Behalf Of Father Fudge Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2005 10:53 PM To: Farhan; Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
