However, I've found in all versions of speakup which I've used that if I set my bns to hardware handshake, I continually have to use speakup key and numpad enter to wake the synth back up after any sizable chunks of data are spoken. If I set the bns to software handshake however, speakup works just fine for me no matter how much data is spoken, and no matter how long I use speakup for with the bns during a given session.
