I know that ALSA has been included permenantly with the 2.6 kernels
but sometimes the version lags behind slightly, the latest ALSA
version on the street. What are the effects of these different
versions? How does one tell what version of ALSA is actually in a
given kernel source tree? I looked all around the source and cannot
find an ALSA version any place. Do I have to downgrade my ALSA libs
and utils to match this kernel version? Currently, I have
alsa-drivers-1.0.3 for my 2.4 kernel. Every time I change ALSA
versions, I invaritabally have to go and redo all my alsa mixer
settings to match things up again.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
