Speechd-up Issues

Oh I don't know, I started this whole experiment on my desktop machine
at home where I have decent compile speeds, disk space, memory, etc.
Then I built Slackware binaries for flite, speechd, speechd-up, new
kernel, etc. and I had speech up and running within a couple hours on
my laptop.  Actually felt pretty good about it.
