The way I do that is to run a job periodically from crontab that checks to see if the current output from pom matches the previously obtained output, and if it does not, it updates my signature file. It updates it by concatenating the pom output with the unchanging part, putting the combined thing into ".signature" ready for pine to use. I sort of forget it's there, to tell the truth.
