Where I work I was once talking to a co-worker about the double talk, as how I like its speech in some ways, but not in some others. She was quite serious and said "isn't that confusing to listen to?" and I said "what?" and she said "hearing it say everything twice? and I said "you mean the synthesizer?" and she said "isn't that why they call it double talk?" It's a really, and I mean really old Doubletalk. I found it in the back of my closet. It has a 1990 date printed on it. When I run DTINFO in DOS, it reports a ROM version of 1.33. It works fine with VocalEyes in DOS. But with CVS Speakup and kernel 2.4.26, if you shut it up any time during the first thirty seconds of booting, it stays really shut up. You can log in and use the machine ok, but there is no speech. You can reboot and continue to use the machine, still no speech. The only way to get speech back is to completely turn the machine off, power it back up and avoid shutting it up until it has spoken for at least thirty or forty seconds. --Debee _______________________________________________ Speakup mailing list Speakup at braille.uwo.ca http://speech.braille.uwo.ca/mailman/listinfo/speakup
