ACPI help

Hi,
On a related subject. I've got a Gentoo box which supports ACPI. I've
enabled it in the 2.6.6 kernel, but when something happens E.G. I hit the
power button, the machine just shuts down right away like there's no
acpi-aware stuff there, and doesn't let Linux do anything about it. Whereas
for instance, in Windows, if you hit the power button Windows takes over and
shuts down the system or at least that's what's supposed to happen. Of
course, sometimes when Windows is in a lockdown state the button does
absolutely nothing E.G. Windows says it wants to handle the button but then
doesn't do anything about it.
So what do I need to do to get ACPI working?
Thanks,
Jayson
