I tried this the first time my AC adapter died. Both the ac adapter got hot as well as the battery in the dec-talk. I think the battery charging circuit is actually in the ac adapter housing. THere is a board attached to the transformer which seemed larger than other ac filtering circuits I've seen However, I didn't investigate the board closely.
