Hey Buddy: I think you've missed on this one we had this discussion a couple of times. There's a setting in your .zinf/preferences file called softmix which you need to set to false and everything should be cool. I use it a lot and it does a nice job, so does alsaplayer, mplayer and Jamie and Mick have another one they're working called xmms-console which is very nice.
