Um...That doesn't make much sense, considering that its the modem's mac address the provider is concerned about. Your router is just a windblows box to which the modem is connected to as far as the provider is concerned. Our cable system has all digital modems now and this may be why. Perhaps on the older analog systems this might not have been all that critical from a performance standpoint.
