There is a java compiler under Debian that is gcj which I think will
compile java code. I am going to try this. Meanwhile, I am downloading the
svk.

Hi, Rejean.
You need to get the jre version 1.4.2 from java.sun.com. Watch out though as
that site doesn't work with lynx very well, and you may need some help from
a graphical browser to get the bin file downloaded.

I need to install the Java Sun runtime environment 1.4 or greater. I tried
to find the package in Debian, but I either don't know what I am doing, or
it isn't there. Does that package exist in Debian? I get some hits on
apt-cache but what to install isn't clear.
