running Knoppix

Perhaps it is the hardware in my machine, but I get a problem loading
Knoppix.
It seems to detect my processor, ram, and drives, but it freezes and the
last thing it says is:
"loading APM driver"
or something like that.
It does the same thing weather I am using the DecTalk or the Artic
transport.
Any suggestions?
I have a P4 1.7 Processor, 256 ram, ATI all-in-wonder video card, SbLive
sound card, and an Ultra IDE card as well as a Trios drive selector card
installed. I also have an Ethernet card, but it came with Linux drivers, so
I am assuming it should work fine.

Thanks.
