mutt problem

Yes, you should do exactly that with maildirmake, except that you
could probably omit the ending / in this case.

Using mutt and slackware, I have the following in my /etc/profile:

#set mail options
export MAIL="$HOME/Maildir"
#done
 
Try that, and see if it does the trick for you.
