There might be another reason, however, since the synthesizer, which is a double talk lt, shuts up before being able to finish a word, it's hard to tell what the reason is. What I've done is use a speakup.i kernel from 9.0 then when asked to insert the root disks I placed the 9.1 install.1 and install.2 disks in and installed from there with no problems.
