I tried alsaconf yesterday to find out that it does not help in my 
situation, as Alsa will not recognize the sound card.

ok, are you trying to install the card using alsaconf? I seem to remember
you saying that yyou were.  I am not a strong user, so you might want to ask
someone if this is the cause of your problem.  Not sure.

/lib/modules/2.4.27-speakup/kernel/drivers/sound
for my sbLive card
