Well folks one more thing might explain my problem with getting dhcp to work. It would seem that there is some possibility that my modem was never registered with the cable company. I spoke to the tech support folk and they said they didn't have that mac address registered. So now I get to go home, verify the mac, call them and determine if what they gave me matches the modem and then get it registered. If that is all there is to it then that would be grand and if not I'll try other suggestions. Thanks to everyone who offered thoughts and suggestions. Scott
