OCR on Linux

It did, just nobody got back to you on it.

I have had some success doing OCR using scanimage and gocr, but this by
no means a consumer level approach.

Some folks have played with a commercial package that is sold at a
discounted rate to blind individuals. I'm going on memory, but it's
something like Vivita OCR Shop -- Well, that's wrong, but maybe someone
else can supply a URL at this point?
