Hi Kevin: I think you are confusing ALSA with Speakup or some other screen reader. ALSA, Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (http://www.alsa-project.org) is a set of soundcard drivers, an interface library to those drivers, and a set of utilities to manipulate those drivers and provide other related functionality. As for what Speakup or any other screen reader for Linux will allow you to do, I dare say you're preeching to the converted. Geoff.
