Moduler Speakup?

I'd say you have it scoped pretty well Steve.  Do a checkout to update
speakup and then run make modules and make modules_install as you
indicated.  You will have to compile speakup and it's drivers as
modules to be able to do this.  If you aren't worried about having
speech right from boot up you can put your driver module in
/etc/modules and it will load as soon as the root fs is initialized.
To do this you need only specify the driver in the /etc/modules file
like speakup_acentpc or whatever.
