Yesterday I built the Speakup program with software speech support and I've found it to be really sluggish and the review functions don't seem to work too well. It does work to a degree, but has a long way to go to actually be something I'd want to replace my hardware synth with software. Yasr looks to be the better of the two console speech options for now.
