The reason why we released the tar ball because there are a lot of changes coming up in the Speakup CVS. Therefore, CVS may be unstable for a time. We thought it would be best if we got the stable CVS code into a tar ball before the major changes were put in. In regards to upgrading to the 1.5 code, I can not see anything wrong with doing so. The code is running well on my box. I am not sure what has been fixed or changed since your CVS version. Kirk would be the man to ask about that.
