Hmmm, I found out I still had docs around from trn3.6. Once I found the docs for trn4 I managed to work out how to do it, though its not obvious. In case anyone cares, you do it by making a .nntpauth file with two lines (first is username, second is password). There's another way with a .trn/access file too, but I wasn't able to get that to work.
