Createing a boot/rescue disk

I am going through the Boot Disk How To on the Linux Documentation Project and starting to feel a little over whelmed. I have grub to boot into redhat7.3 if I do not choose Windows. I have enabled CD ROM boot up via the BIOS. I am getting confused on what disk method I should use; a 1.44MB floppy or a CDRW. I am just thinking of putting in a disk, booting into linux, have Speakup find My DECTalk Express on COM1 and have an editor to fix system problems/copying, moveing or editing text files. Can someone please simplify all this boot disk creation for me? Thank you.
