Which Linux (again, I suspect)

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi Gina,

Yup, I've lost your number. The intention is to build a machine to act as a
learning tool, rather than something with a fixed role. In addition, it's
going to be necessary to make it dual-boot to either Windows 2000 Pro or NT4
Workstation (probably the former). I'm assuming that I'll need to create
the partitions for the Linux build, install it, then install 2000 or
whatever into partitions within the remaining unpartitioned space - am I
right in thinking that the 2000 installer will allow me to configure its
boot loader, or do you recommend a method using lilo (or something else)?

The Linux build will, hopefully, connect to the internet via a dial-up modem
when out on the road or via our office gateway when at work. I'll also be
configuring it as a Samba client so that I can access our network shares and
printers. I'm going to have a good look at the Windows 98 Device Manager
that's currently on the box and have a hunt around for info and drivers as
necessary before gritting my teeth, crossing my limbs and going for it.

What do you reckon?

Tim

Hi

Well Tim if you have my number still, give me a ring and we'll see waht
we can do. Maybe you'd like to proffer some idea of what the GNU/Linux
will be used for?

If you've lost my number, drop me a line:
