Ok, does the system boot? If it does, and just doesn't talk, then I think I can help you with the problem. Unless you've explicitly defined a default synthesiser when you compiled the kernel, then you need to add a line like this to the global section of your lilo.conf: append "speakup_synth=synth" Where synth is the 4-6 letter code for your synthesiser. If it's just not booting, then I don't know, and I have a similar problem, and may have to play with rdev.
