Hey Janina, The National Weather Service's entire Advanced Weather Information Processing System (AWIPS) is soon going to be entirely running on Linux. One of the fastest super computers in the world run by the Forecast Systems Laboratory runs on Linux. However, AWIPS is inaccessible because just about all of the applications run under XWINDOWS.
