Icecast 1 and two work very well under gnu/linux.  Typically you can
use ices, darkice or liveice for streaming.  You can checkout my
stream at http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/egoplay.ogg.  That is a 128
kbps ogg/vorbis stream.  There is also a 64 kbps stream at the same
address with the mount point /egoplay64.ogg.  There are a number of
folks that use various combinations to stream to shoutcast, freecast
and on acb radio interactive.
