Hi Kirk, Its fine using the new keymap. In Redhat incidentally it expects the file to be gnu zipped. So for any Redhat newbies reading this I did the following steps as root: cd /usr/src/linux/driver/char/speakup cp speakupmap.map /lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty cd /lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty gzip speakupmap.map mv speakupmap.gz speakup.kmap.gz reboot Jim WB0TFK
