I will stand by my statement that the scanners you find today will claim
twain compliance. Some (such as HP) provide replacement files for the
twain interface. The thing is that this is accomodated in the
specification. It really is quite simple: if they bundle software that is
available elsewhere, they make some use of the twain interface. They may
fully support it. But they still support it.
