Hi William: Even though you're running bash2 at the command prompt, it seems that the older bash is being invoked by the script, or rather it's being invoked in order to run the script. Not knowing the specifics of running multiple versions of bash, I couldn't say for sure how to fix this in a permanent sort of way (short of uninstalling the older bash I suppose), but I guess you could edit /usr/src/speakup-0.10a/install and on the top line edit the bash line to point to your bash2 binary.
