I haven't tried workbone, but if you want a command-line CD player, I
recommend cdcd (at http://cdcd.undergrid.net/).  You run it entirely
with commands from the command line.  So instead of pressing keys on
the keypad, you type commands like these:

"cdcd play":  Play first track or resume the current track if paused.
"cdcd play 9":  Play track 9.
"cdcd next":  Skip to the next track.
"cdcd prev":  Go back one track.
"cdcd pause":  Pause the player.
"cdcd stop":  Stop the player.
"cdcd tracks":  Look up CD and track info in an online CD database.

I use it mostly to listen to a CD or check the CD info before adding
the tracks I like into the music collection on my hard disk.
