greg. if you look in the zipspeak directory, somewhere in there is a whole load of kernel images for zipspeak. all u need to do is download the 1 pertaining to you synth and rename it vmlinuz.speakup that's what I did to start with. then I got the boot image for the same synth and just typed mount root=/dev/xxx where xxx ipoints to the partition or drive I had zipspeak installed on.
