Yes it is likely. I've been communicating with Patrick Volkerding and we have discussed this. If you look at the slackware-current tree you will see it is pretty close to completion. I don't want to say they will be there in case something falls through, but I can say it looks promising. Since we are on this topic I have a speakup.i and speakup.s boot disk available for anyone who wants it. The .i is the bare.i kernel with speakup compiled in and the .s one is the scsi.s kernel with speakup compiled in. These have been compiled with all synthesizers that speakup supports with a default synthesizer of none. So at the kernel boot prompt you would have to enter speakup_synth=xxx with the name of your sinthesizer.
