Hi again: Taking this one step further, from kind of a newbie who realizes this must have been asked before.. I started out wiht an Accent SA synthesizer, now I'd rather use my DoubleTalk LT, so I went to /etc/lilo.conf and modified the last line to read: append="speakup_synth=ltlk" Now, when I reboot, the DoubleTalk LT does come up talking, but the very first words I hear from it are that it found an Accent-SA synth, and if I go to /proc/speakup to try and tweak settings like rate, volume and the like, they don't seem to have any effect. Is lilo.conf really the file I need to modify here, or is there something else. By the way, this is RedHat 7 we're working with. Thanks for all the help.
