Laplink require either a serial port or a parrelel port on each machine
(but not both at the same time). You can not, however, use serial on one
machine and parallel on another.

If you are going to do this often, you can get a switch box to go back and
forth between the printer and laplink. Also, you only need speech working
with one of the two machines.

Incedently, you can also transfer files with the software built into
Windows. You just have to install "direct cable connection." You can find
it in the add/remove programs on the windows setup tab. (No I won't give
you instructions though. You can however look at the help file. Same with
more info on laplink.)
