If you can run trplayer on the remote system you can probably also run
'vsound' - which means you can convert that 128kb stream to a wave
file. Then you can use lame to encode it into mp3 at 24 or even 16 kb,
mono if you really want to squeeze it, and then resend it to yourself. Of
course that is not 'real time' but it gets you the data at whatever rate
you wish.
