The bns settings are 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, software handshaking. I had a problem with the synth autodetection (as in it refused to work) so I modded linux/drivers/char/speakup/speakup_bns.c to only check ttys0 (the port I was using) and assume the bns was found.
